Depression & Breastfeeding: The Impact of Oxytocin and Stress
By Kathleen Kendall-Tackett, PhD, IBCLC, FAPA
Dr. Kathleen Kendall-Tackett shares depression research describing the link between the stress and the oxytocin systems and how they relate to both maternal mental health and breastfeeding. When the stress system is upregulated, depression and breastfeeding difficulties follow. Conversely, when oxytocin is upregulated, maternal health and breastfeeding rates improve. Dr Kendall-Tackett will also include the role of birth interventions and mother-infant sleep, as well as practical strategies that increase oxytocin.
Dr. Kendall-Tackett is an internationally known and recognized expert in the field of maternal mental health, breastfeeding and oxytocin.
